Container gardenis a brilliant concept for houses with no garden or outdoor space and it can be done easily with only a few pots put up in the patio or the balcony or even the window sill. indoor garden costs need not be exorbitant and can be kept to the minimum with a few of these ideas. You can even grow vegetables or herbs in containers and save further on your daily cooking requirements!
The common mistake is to invest in expensive pots and containers to enhance the beauty of the plants and the area. This is especially true if you are a novice because you do not yet know whether your plants will survive or not and it's a wasteful expenditure to buy expensive stuff.
Your rubbish bin will be a wonderful place to begin with and all you need is a pair of scissors. Odd sets of old ceramic jugs, bowls or mugs will make for eclectic yet attractive containers for indoor gardening.
Soda bottles, ice cube trays or egg containers can also be converted into seedling pots to keep the garden costs down. Or, if you are adept enough, opt for a do it yourself garden box which can be hammered from wood. The only thing which you must ensure is to provide a hole at the bottom of these containers for drainage.
If recycling old stuff is not really your thing, a visit to your local discount store may yield surprising results; many of them offer plastic containers and terracotta pots for gardening. During season time they may even offer seed packages and potting soil as well as some basic gardening tools like mini watering cans and trowels.
Many cities and municipalities also give away free compost from designated areas in order to encourage environmental consciousness. Local nurseries sometimes may offer free compost or tips on how to procure it. Ask friends, family, and neighbors for cuttings if they have gardens; see if they can spare a few containers; they may even have extra unused seed packets which you can choose to get your container garden started.
