Be Prepared For Immigration Interview Questions - Find Out Now

When you apply for a spousal visa with a US citizen or resident you require an interview as part of the process. It can be a very stressful part of obtaining a visa because there is so much at stake and the immigration officers are notoriously humorless and serious. There are several ways that you can prepare for the immigration interview questions and get your visa easily.

If you are applying for a spousal visa because you are married to a US citizen do be prepared to answer personal immigration interview questions. It is not pleasant to have your entire life waded through by a humorless and unsympathetic stranger, but it is a necessary evil. They are merely trying to establish that your relationship with your spouse is genuine and ongoing. Expect questions such as where you met, how long you have been together, what your wedding was like and the circumstances around it.

Sometimes the officers will interview you both separately and then collate the answers to ensure they match. Even in a genuine relationship you do not always know everything about the other person so make sure you practice your responses together and know things like their favorite food, places, color, song etc.

It is important that you are fully aware of your spouse's financial status. You should know what type of car they drive, how much the rent or mortgage costs, credit cards and loans and debts they might have. The officers will also have you describe their home so make sure you can talk about what it looks like inside: the color of the walls and carpets, the type of furniture and the layout of the house.

Do have joint bank account and statements, utilities bills with both of your names listed on it, details of clubs or associations of which you are both members (if you aren't affiliated with anything join up just for the paperwork)and photos of you both together at different social occasions throughout the duration of your relationship.

Do have friends or family that are US citizens who will vouch for your relationship in written form. Bring along these notarized statements and copies to the interview. On top of this you should also be able to tell the immigration officers about your spouse's family including their brothers', sisters' and parents names, occupations, where they live how many kids the siblings might have and so on.

Make sure you arrive on time to the interview with all the required forms, identification and copies. You should be dressed neat and tidy for the interview as it will create a much better impression and show that you are serious about the interview process.

Never joke around with an interviewer about sensitive subjects such as drug smuggling, illegal immigration, marriages of convenience or terrorism. They will not take them well and it will only cause problems for your visa. Although questions might be offensive or overly personal do not become defensive or get a bad attitude towards the interviewer, they are testing you to see how you respond. Make sure you are completely honest as they are trained in body language and know all the tricks.

If you are not confident about your English ability it is fine to bring along an interpreter. Don't answer questions that you don't understand fully as you may answer inappropriately and inadvertently say something you don't mean.

If you do your homework and get prepared for your immigration interview questions, you should not have any problems in the actual interview. Try to remain relaxed and answer all questions as well as you possibly can.
