Be Smart And Safe: Protect Your Home And Family With Fire Alarms

Do you have a friend or family member who has been affected by a house fire? Perhaps a neighbor or someone who lives close to you has experienced this. All of us have seen and heard about them on the news, and we recognize how devastating they can be, for a home is a person's most prized earthly possession. We are attached to our homes, and they are full of memorabilia that is specific to us. Although there are many other precautions we should take to ensure the safety of our homes, fire is one of the biggest dangers and one that is often not taken seriously enough. Installing fire alarms in your home may be the one thing that one day saves it or even your own life.

A fire alarm senses the presence of a fire by using the help of am interior smoke or heat detector. We all know that a house fire can be a very silent prey. Sleeping persons may never know that there is a fire in their home until it is too late. This is why the presence of fire safety equipment is so crucial. It is our silent watchmen over our safety.

When a fire alarm recognizes the presence of heart or smoke, it is signaled to sound off an alarm. This is a high-pitched noise that signals all who hear it of the problem. Most fire alarm systems can detect a fire within seconds or minutes of it being started.

There are two different types of fire detectors: ionization detectors and photoelectric detectors. These types are determined by the fire-detecting device inside of them.

Few homes once were equipped with proper fire safety equipment, but in recent years, this number has increased drastically. At least 85% of American homes have now installed a fire alarm system in their homes.

Interestingly enough, though the number of house fires has decreased, the number of accidents caused due to fires has not. This enforces the fact that while installing a proper fire safety equipment is important, maintaining them is of equal importance. You need to check your fire alarm system every few months to ensure that it is working properly. Some run on batteries which will need to be replaced regularly. Others may merely malfunction for some reason. You should light a match under your system to see if it is working correctly.

Modern fire alarms have saved lives and we have much to be grateful for. All of us have been annoyed at one time or another when we have burned our popcorn or left the skillet on for too long and set it off. However, you should keep in mind that this is the one thing that could potentially save your life some day. Get a fire alarm. Install it, and check it regularly. Protect your family and your home.
